The Last of the V-Bombers

Avro's iconic Vulcan. When Nato faced the Soviet threat during the Cold War the U.K.'s nuclear capability lay with three aircraft; the Vickers Valiant, Handley-Page's Victor, and the Vulcan. Down the years, the Vulcan has assumed cult-status; who can forget the enormous bat-shape climbing into the sky, engines making the very air tremble with their power, at air displays around the country? It's place in aviation history assured when a lone Vulcan made the huge round trip to bomb the airfield runway at Port Stanley during the first weeks of the Falklands conflict.
